His broad experience in the financial advisory space includes working both as a practitioner and providing advice and IT and investment consulting services to the advice sector in New Zealand.
David’s considerable experience is supported by strong academic credentials including an MBA and a graduate diploma in Personal Financial Planning.

Working in the industry since the 1980’s, Miles has experienced three financial crashes and understands the need for patience and a balanced and unbiased view to assist clients to not become too anxious or panic and sell assets at the wrong time.
As one of a small number of people in New Zealand with both CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) and CFP (Certified Financial Planner) qualifications, and a MBA Miles has the the foundation of knowledge to offer quality advice.

How do I select an adviser for my needs?
Advisers are typically remunerated in one or more of the following ways:
- through fees paid directly by the client,
- commissions paid by product providers, or
- as an investment service fee typically charged against funds you have invested on the adviser platform.
Your adviser should provide you with details of their remuneration arrangements prior to undertaking any work for you.
There are various qualifications available to financial advisers but the minimum standard is a Level 5 Certificate in financial services which must be endorsed in the specialist areas in which the adviser is licensed to give advice (Lending, Risk and Investments). In addition, an adviser must be licensed by the Financial Markets Authority.
The cost of financial advice very much depends on the nature of the advice being sought and the outcomes in terms of financial products which the adviser is engaged to implement.
Your adviser will provide details of the costs prior to undertaking any work. For advisers engaged through the advice platform, the first hour of advice is complimentary. If that first hour identifies more complex or compreheisvie advice needs, your adviser will provide details of remuneration arrangements.
The advisers on The Advice Platform are verified, qualified financial advice professionals who are competent to give advice in their respective area(s) of expertise. We recommend the following steps:
1. Confirm what type of advice you need and prepare a shortlist of advisers who specialise in these areas.
2. Visit the adviser website, check their credentials on LinkedIn, check and client references that are publicly available.
3. Check their status on the NZ Financial Services Provider register (https://fspr.govt.nz)
4. Contact the adviser, explain your situation and determine how they work - this would include asking how they get paid for their work and assessing whether you would be comfortable working with them.
